The Game Story:
ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's lacrosse team opened the 2013 season with a 21-1 loss to Alvernia University Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions are 0-1 on the season, while the Crusaders clinched their first win of the season and improve to 1-2 overall.

The Crusaders of Alvernia University came out strong as they scored six goals in the first period, two of which were scored by Rick Reid. The Nittany Lions would slow down the Crusaders attack a little bit but they still went into the half with a 12-0 deficit.

In the second half it was more of the same as Alvernia added another nine goals to finish the game with 21. Abington managed to get a point on the board in the third period after Kieran Ragan picked up a ground ball in front of the cage and chipped in the solo goal past goalkeeper Mikhail Gardner.

James Carlin recorded 15 saves for Abington, while Brandon Weaver and Gardner tallied three saves for the victory. Ragan grabbed seven ground balls for Abington, while teammate William Suder battled for five grounds balls and won 4-of-16 attempts on the face.

Patrick Hoban led the Crusaders with four goals on five shots, while teammates Rick Reid, Colin Gallagher, and Brian Ray each tallied a hat trick.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Wednesday, March 6th as it takes on Arcadia University for a 7 p.m. game. Stay tuned to for all your news and updates.
