The Game Story:
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy closed the regular season in exciting fashion, getting a goal from freshman Mason Risner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) 2:44 into overtime to help the Griffins to 9-8 win over Centenary in CSAC action Thursday night.

The Griffins (9-4, 4-2 CSAC), who trailed by two goals early in the fourth quarter, took a seemingly 8-7 lead with just over a minute in regulation, only to see the Cyclones net a goal with 9.1 seconds in regulation.

Sophomore Nick Hummel (Verona, Wisc./Middleton) had three scores, his last one came with 1:24 showing in the fourth, helping GM take a late one-goal edge.

Centenaryís Robert Nuzzolese, who also tallied three goals, found the back of the net after three scoring chances in the last 52 seconds of regulation.

Risnerís shot from the high slot was set up after a caused turnover from Mike Henry (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) in the defensive zone. The freshman now has five game-winning goals under his belt this season.

After a defensive battle kept the scoring at a premium, as it was just 3-3 at halftime and 4-4 after the third quarter, both teams combined for eight fourth-quarter goals.

Conor Nolanís goal, followed by Nuzzoleseís man-up tally put the Cyclones (5-8, 1-5 CSAC) ahead by two m midway in the fourth. Two quick scores from Hummel and sophomore Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) just 30 seconds apart in the sixth minute breathed new life.

Sophomore Stefan Hetland (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) zipped one in with 3:45 left and Coan would set up Hummel on a nice feed inside to give GM a late 8-7 lead. Coan added two assists on the evening.

GM goalie Rich Zagari (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) made four saves, but Centenary keeper Kyle Burgess recorded 13.

Gwynedd outshot Centenary, 39-23.

Prior to the game, the team recognized Geoff Ford (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) its lone senior on the team as the Griffins played their final regular season home game.
