| GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – A big second-half rally came up just short as Gwynedd-Mercy fell to Immaculata, 11-9, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Game on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins (5-7, 1-3 CSAC), who were behind 6-0 early in the second quarter, scored the game’s last five goals but could not pull any closer in dropping their fourth-straight. Down 11-4 midway in the third, GM kept the Macs (2-6, 1-1 CSAC) off the board and rattled off the next five in a row, including three man-up goals and a man-down tally from Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) with 2:37 left. Stefan Hetland (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) led Gwynedd with three scores. Thomas Stewart (Forest Hill, Md./North Harford) added two while Coan, Jonathan Schmitt (Wrightstown, N.J./Northern Burlington), Nick Hummel (Verona, Wisc./Middleton) and Matt Houk (Vienna, Va./Bishop O’Connell) all had a goal and an assist. IU’s Joe Keller and Dante Tuscai each netted five goals apiece. Keller and Tuscai had two each in the first quarter, helping the Mighty Macs to a 5-0 lead after one. Schmitt and Hetland notched scores in the second, but GM trailed 8-2 at halftime. With 18 penalties in the game, each team scored three man-up goals each while IU outshot GM, 33-30, and held a 28-26 groundball edge. Goalie Kevin Hens (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) made 10 of his 16 saves in the second half. IU keeper Andrew Sim notched 12 stops. Gwynedd will look to get back on track on Wednesday with a CSAC matchup at Centenary starting at 4 p.m. |
