The Game Story:
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Two goals in the last five minutes of the game gave Gwynedd-Mercy its first win in the program’s short history, as the Griffins posted a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Carthage on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 4-3, Stefan Hetland (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) found the back of the net on a feed from Matt Houk (Vienna, Va./Bishop O’Connell) to tie the contest. Later, Jonathan Schmitt (Wrightstown, N.J./Northern Burlington) then zipped the eventual game-winner in with 2:28 left and the Griffins were able to complete the comeback.

Steven Miner (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) had first half tallies as the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 at the half.

Houk made it a 3-2 Griffin lead scoring with 17 seconds left in the third. Carthage (1-1) took the lead on goals for Owen Foley six minutes apart in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Hens (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) made six of his 10 saves in the second half. Red Men goalie Daniel Hurst recorded 19 stops.
