| GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Seven different players scored as Gwynedd-Mercy stormed past visiting Mount Saint Mary, 15-2, Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Nathan Pendleton (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the offense with four goals. Senior Craig Trueblood (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) added three scores and two assists. The Griffins (2-2) outshot the Knights, 59-11, on the day. Seniors Stefan Hetland (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Nick Coan (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) each chipped in two goals apiece. Hetland also posted a game-high three assists. MSM goalie Connor Haran was kept busy, making 25 saves. Ryley O'Keefe (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made five stops. Gwynedd led 1-0 in the first before four goals registered, sandwiched around a Knight tally, in the last five minutes of the period. GM got the ball really rolling in the second quarter, starting the period a man-down and would find later themselves down another man due to a penalty. That's when Zachary Richter (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) hooked up with Hetland on a quick defensive transition for a man-down goal. Roy Bakeoven (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), Hetland again, and Mason Risner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) also added goals to help the Griffins lead 8-1 at the half. Matt O'Donnell tallied both goals for the Knights (2-3). Freshman Nico Belardo (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) also scored for the Griffins. Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Marymount in a 5 p.m. start. |
