Cobleskill vs. Hartwick

The Game Story:
ONEONTA, NY - Freshman attack Tom Srubinski (West Islip, NY) netted five goals including a pair in the fourth quarter as the Hartwick College men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season 12-5 over Cobleskill on Wednesday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks improve to 1-1 while the Fighting Tigers sink to 0-2.

The Hawks led 7-1 in the third quarter before Cobleskill scored four of the next five goals to cut the advantage to just three (8-5) with under 14 minutes to play. Srubinski answered from sophomore Ian Skudin (Long Beach, NY) with 5:29 to play triggering a four-goal run for the Hawks in the next three minutes of action. Freshman Chris Livelli (Hillsborough, NJ) scored with 4:47 left and Skudin would set up Srubinski once again at the 3:32 mark. Srubinski would return the favor to Skudin for the final goal of the match with 2:25 on the clock.

Srubinski (5 goals, 1 assist), Skudin (1 goal, 3 assists), and Livelli (2 goals, 1 assist) combined for eight goals and five assists on the day for the Hawks. Sophomore Ryan Kloss (Hillsborough, NJ) would add a goal and an assist, and seniors Steve Caramello (Duxbury, MA) and Alex Giovinazzo (Waltham, MA) each added a tally. Freshman Mike Morrison (Holbrook, NY) also picked up his first career goal with the Blue and White.

Cobleskill was paced by Kevin MacNeil's two goals and one assist. Mike Janavey, Andrew Abbott, and Tom Cunningham each scored once for the Tigers.

After the first period of play, Hartwick gained a 3-1 edge with Srubinski scoring twice and Kloss adding a goal. The Hawks then broke the game open in the latter stages of the second quarter with three goals in a 1:26 span for a 6-1 lead at the half.

Hartwick and Cobleskill traded two goals each in the third period and MacNeill scored his pair in the first two minutes of the fourth to make it a 9-5 contest. After eight scoreless minutes, the Hawks sealed the Tigers' fate with their quartet of goals in three minutes.

Livelli added a game-high nine ground balls on the day and was solid in the face-off circle winning 12 of 15. Keeper John Meade (Ocean Beach, NY) made six stops to earn the win. He also grabbed seven ground balls for the Hawks, who finished the afternoon with a huge 57-15 edge in shots and a 47-24 advantage in ground balls for the game. Cobleskill's goalie Robert MacDonald finished the game with 18 saves including six in each of the second and third quarters.
