The Game Story:
COBLESKILL, NY (April 11, 2012) – The Vassar men's lacrosse team scored the game's first ten goals and held off a comeback effort by SUNY Cobleskill to register a 13-7 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

In the ten goal opening blitz, six different Brewers scored goals. Vassar took a 10-2 lead into halftime.

The victory snapped a six game losing streak and improves the Brewers to 3-7 on the season. Cobleskill drops to 1-9 on the season. Vassar returns to Liberty League play on Saturday, hosting No. 9 nationally ranked Rochester Institute of Technology on Gordon Field at Noon.

Seniors Christopher Toffoli and Jack Gross got the Brewers on the board quickly, scoring five of the first ten goals. Senior Matthew Pearce, freshman Scott Brekne, junior Ryan McCarthy and freshman Sean Brazier all contributed goals in the scoring run.

Cobleskill did make a concerted effort to draw back into the contest, scoring seven straight goals – coming within 10-7 – with 9:16 to play in the game. Four of them came off the stick of Mike Janavey.

Vassar held off the late Cobleskill surge, getting three straight goals from sophomore Max Herman, Brekne and Toffoli for the 13-7 victory. The Brewers were able to play their entire roster during the victory.

Toffoli and Gross each had three goals and Brekne had a pair.

Sophomore goalie Andrew Nicol made seven saves in the victory.
