Mount St Mary vs. Montclair State
April 19, 2011
The Game Story:
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Montclair State University fought through torrential downpours to upend Mount Saint Mary College, 14-3, in a conference lacrosse match Tuesday night on Kaplan field. With the victory, the Red Hawks move to 7-6 overall, 4-1 Skyline, while the Knights drop to 2-13 overall, 0-6 Skyline.

The inclement weather led to sloppy play all evening long. Neither team had notched a goal until junior Matthew Prongay (Edison, N.J.) broke the scoring drought with 10:40 remaining in the second period. A Prongay goal five minutes later bookended a 5-0 scoring run by the Red Hawks.

Down 5-0 in the second half, sophomore AJ Silver (Jersey City, N.J.) got the Knights on the board with an unassisted goal 1:39 into the third period. After Prongay countered with a goal minutes later, freshmen defensemen Matt Buonocore (Mahwah, N.J.) cut the deficit to four after he forced a turnover and streaked half the field for a nice finish with 9:58 remaining in the third.

The Buonocore goal was as close as the Knights would get. Montclair State finished the game on an 8-1 run, highlighted by three goals freshmen John Talamo (Freehold, N.J.), the final of which capped the Red Hawk 11 goal victory with 2:23 remaining in the contest.

Prongay and Talamo led the way for Montclair State, netting three goals apiece. Junior Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and senior Robert Sinicola (North Caldwell, N.J.) each added a pair of goals for the Red Hawks.

For the Knights, Silver, Buonocore, and sophomore Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored. Freshmen goalie Shawn Cobstill (Oneonta, N.Y.) made 19 saves in the defeat.

The Knights finish the year 2-13.
