Mount St Mary vs. Mitchell

The Game Story:
NEWBURGH, N.Y. Ė The Mount Saint Mary College menís lacrosse team won its second game of the season this evening, posting a 14-1 victory over Mitchell College. The Knights (2-6) held the advantage in shots and ground balls for the game and held the Mariners (1-5) scoreless for three straight quarters.

The Knights opened the game with a four goal run and finished the first quarter with a score of 5-1. Freshmen Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) each scored two goals and sophomore Patrick Byrne (Milford, Conn.) added a lone goal to close out the quarter. Mitchell sophomore Aharon Wall (Hyde Park, Mass.) converted a shot with 5:18 left in the quarter to get the Mariners on the board.

Findlay and Pullen continued the scoring run into the second quarter and the Mount added three goals before the half, despite going 1-for-4 in face-offs. Pullen and senior Joe Costello (Geneva, N.Y.) contributed assists during the second quarter.

After halftime, the Knights continued the pressure, unleashing a total of 16 shots in the third quarter. They converted on 4-of-16 attempts to give the Mount a 12-1 lead by the end of the quarter. Findlay added a goal, followed by two more tallies from Pullen and another from Costello.

Despite being outshot 9-5 in the fourth quarter, the Mount held Mitchell scoreless and converted two more chances. Andrew Pullen scored four of the last five goals of the contest and finished the game with seven goals and two assists. Findlay totaled five goals on the day, while Byrne and Costello contributed one goal each.

Defensively, the Mount played well, limiting Mitchell to 29 shots on the game and without an extra-man goal in seven opportunities. Mount sophomore goalie Zack Shaw (Dumont, N.J.) finished with 13 saves and defensemen Mike Nastro (Monticello, N.Y.) and Alex Gutierrez (Elmont, N.Y.) each caused two turnovers.
