March 11, 2013
The Game Story:
NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College junior Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) scored four goals and the Knights held off a late charge from Husson University on Monday evening to earn a 9-7 win in non-conference action. The Mount moves to 3-2 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 0-3.

Mount Saint Mary dominated the opening quarter and led 4-0 at the end of one. After senior Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) opened the scoring at the 9:46 mark, senior Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) made a sweet move behind the net and darted to the front to put home the second goal of the evening for the Knights. O'Donnell and sophomore Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) rounded out the first quarter scoring.

Husson senior Chris Pelletier (Rome, Maine) put the Eagles on the board when he dodged to the left and finished at the near post with 8:55 remaining in the second quarter. Husson would outscore the Knights, 2-1, in the second quarter and trailed 5-2 at the break.

After an even 2-2 third quarter that featured a pair of goals from O'Donnell, the Knights led 7-4 entering the fourth. O'Donnell opened the scoring in the final quarter, putting home a feed from Robison on man-up opportunity at the 6:27 mark. Husson was quick to answer, however, as senior Dillon Shaw (Augusta, Maine) put home a goal just 26 seconds later to cut the deficit back to three at 8-5. Robison found the back of the net with 4:10 remaining, but Husson answered once again, this time on a goal from freshman Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, N.H.) with 2:38 remaining that made it 9-6. The Eagles closed to within two with 1:27 remaining, but Mount junior Stephen White (Schenectady, N.Y.) won the ensuing faceoff and the Knights were able to kill most of the remaining clock.

O'Donnell's four points led the way for the Knights, while Robison and Findlay each added three points on two goals and an assist. White went 12-for-17 on faceoffs and collected a team-high 15 groundballs. Sophomore goalie Connor Haran (Massapequa, N.Y.) made eight saves to earn the victory.

For Husson, Corbo posted a team-high three points on two goals and an assist. Senior goalie John Hooper III (Wakefield, R.I.) made 10 saves in defeat.

The Knights return to action on Saturday with a short road trip to Vassar. Game time is 1:00 p.m. in Poughkeepsie.
