March 3, 2012
The Game Story:
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Despite an even second half, the Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a seven point deficit at the break and eventually fell by a score of 15-8 to Lebanon Valley College. The Knights move to 1-2 on the season, while the Flying Dutchmen even their record at 1-1.

With less than one minute elapsed Lebanon Valley sophomore Malik Pedroso (Binghamton, N.Y.) passed the ball off to teammate Matt Roupe (Baltimore, M.D.) to get the Flying Dutchmen on the scoreboard. Lebanon Valley followed with four more goals and with 3:13 remaining in the first they held a 5-0 lead.

As the clock wound down in the first, Mount junior Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) finally broke the deadlock as he buried a feed from classmate Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.). Pullen and freshman CJ Cardo (Merrick, N.Y.) added two more goals in the second quarter, but Lebanon Valley strung together a 3-0 run in the middle of the quarter to put them up 10-3 at the half.

Both teams remained scoreless through the opening minutes of the third, until Pedroso netted his second on the day to put the Knights in an eight goal hole, 11-3. A loose ball scramble in front of the net around the three minute mark resulted in a Mount goal, as sophomore Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) scooped up the groundball and sent it into the back of the net. An unassisted tally by Mount freshman David Hobbs (Baldwin, N.Y.) to close out the quarter brought the Knights to within six, 11-5.

Trailing by eight with around nine minutes remaining the game, Pullen dished the ball off to Cardo who then fired home a shot, making the score 13-6. Cardo followed with two more unassisted tallies to bring the Knights to within six, however two goals by the Flying Dutchmen put the game out of reach for the Mount.

Cardo finished with a career high four goals, while Pullen added two goals and two assists. The Mount received lone goals from Hobbs and O'Donnell. Sophomore Shawn Cobstill (Oneonta, N.Y.) takes the loss in net, recording 12 saves.

Pedroso led the Flying Dutchmen with three goals and four assists. Roupe put together a five point performance, with four goals and one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Moll (Dix Hills, N.Y.) totaled nine saves in the win.
