Lebanon Valley 11, Alfred 5

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Led by big games from Malik Pedroso and Ian Schmid, Lebanon Valley advanced to the ECAC Semifinals with an 11-5 win over Alfred Wednesday night.

The Dutchmen (12-6) will get a rematch with a familiar foe, traveling to Albright for a 3 p.m. semifinal on Saturday. The final will be played Sunday at 1 p.m., also at Albright.

Pedroso scored five goals to become the first player in program history to reach 50 goals in a season. Schmid turned in a hat trick with an assist in his final game at Arnold Field, including a pair of first-half strikes.

LVC was buoyed by Scott Sutton's 13-for-18 night on the X, and Mike Moll had a 16-save effort in cage to hold Alfred to just two second-half goals after a 6-3 first half. LVC led on shots 42-34 after the game started 70 minutes late due to pregame lightning in the area.

The Dutchmen scored all three first-quarter goals thanks to Alex Beard, Schmid, and Pedroso, then took a 4-0 lead when defender Ian Repko rifled a transition shot from 20 yards out to start the second quarter. Schmid and Klayton Garman made it 6-0, but Alfred ended the half on a 3-0 run to cut LVC's lead to 6-3 at the break.

LVC took full control to start the second half, with Pedroso sandwiching goals around Schmid, and the junior had both Dutchmen strikes in the fourth quarter to cap the win. Defensively, Repko and Andrew Kruter led LVC with three caused turnovers each, and Repko and Ryan Lanigan each came up with five ground balls. Jake Spadoni paced Alfred with five caused turnovers.
