|The Game Story:|
|JACKSON – The Millsaps Majors Men's Lacrosse Team opened the 2012 season on Wednesday evening as they took on the Augustana Vikings at Harper Davis Field. The Majors hung tough with the Vikings and stayed within striking distance in the first half, but the Vikings pulled away in the second half to take the win.|
The Vikings opened the game with the first two goals, before Millsaps responded when sophomore Ryan McKay found a seam and burst through numerous defenders to score the first goal of the season and cut the deficit in half.
Augustana added another goal shortly after as the quarter ended with Millsaps behind 3-1.
The Vikings tacked on another goal, but the Majors came calling back as sophomore Brandon Allison took a beautiful pass from McKey and found the back of the net to make it a 4-2 game.
Augustana finished the half strong though and went in with a 9-2 lead and proved to be too tough as they began to pull away in the second half.
Millsaps was able to get on the board again in the third quarter as the leading scorer from a year ago, sophomore Hunter Stevison, picked up his first goal of the season from long range as McKay picked up his second assist.
The Vikings prevailed though, as they took the 17-3 win, their first win of the season. Millsaps falls to 0-1.
Sophomore Chris Hood was great in goal as he picked up 16 saves in his first outing of the year. Freshman Stuart Madden picked up nine ground balls while sophomore Kirk Clark led the way defensively with two caused turnovers. Madden was incredible in faceoffs as he won 14 of the 20 faceoffs he faced.
The Majors are back in action this Saturday at Harper Davis Field, as they will take on a future conference opponent in Berry College. Faceoff is set for 2 p.m.
