Augustana vs. Carthage
April 28, 2012
The Game Story:
The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (11-5, 5-4 Midwest Men's Lacrosse Conference) closed out its regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 28 with an 11-1 win over non-conference opponent Augustana College (Ill., 8-6) at Thorson-Lucken Field in Rock Island, Ill. The Vikings will join the Midwest Men's Lacrosse Conference in 2013.

The game was tied, 1-1, after the first period. The Red Men took a 4-1 lead at halftime and led, 7-1, after three periods. Keegan Bowman (Sr., New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster Secondary) led Carthage with four goals, two assists and four ground balls. Seth Molek (Jr., Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) had two goals and three ground balls, with Peter Slefinger (Jr., Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) and Jake Cymbal (Fr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) collecting two goals and a ground ball each.

The Red Men must now await the results of a Sunday, April 29 game between Trine University and Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Mo. Carthage can claim the fourth seed in the conference tournament if Trine defeats Fontbonne. A Trine victory would leave Carthage, Trine and Concordia University (Wis.) in a three-way tie for fourth place, but the Red Men would gain the playoff berth based on goal differential in conference games.
