Huntingdon vs. Millsaps

The Game Story:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Millsaps Majors Men's Lacrosse Team made history on Saturday afternoon as they picked up not only there first win of the season, but in the program's history over the Huntingdon Hawks. Freshman Scott Budd had a career day with six goals and four ground balls to lead the Majors to the 10-6 win.

After nearly 10 minutes of no points on the board, Huntingdon struck first to take a 1-0 lead. Budd responded at the 2:38 mark as he scored his first goal of the game thanks to an assist from sophomore Hunter Stevison. The Majors then started the second quarter with a bang as sophomore Brandon Allison scored thanks to an assist from freshman Stuart Madden.

Millsaps the increased their lead to 3-1 less then a minute later as Budd converted again. Huntingdon got back on the board to make it a 3-2 game before the Majors rattled off three consecutive goals from Budd, Allison, and freshman Jake Kaple to go up 6-2. The Hawks grabbed a goal before half, but the Majors held a 6-3 lead.

In the third quarter, both teams played very defensively and sophomore goalkeeper Chris Hood was terrific as he continued to block Hawks shots throughout the day. The Majors got the one goal of the quarter with 1:07 remaining when Budd scored again to take a 7-3 lead.

Budd added two more to start the fourth quarter to give the Majors their largest lead of the game at 9-3. The Hawks tried to make a run as they cut the deficit to 9-5, but Allison put them away for good with a goal with 7:03 remaining to make it 10-5. Huntingdon got a late goal with under two minutes remaining to make the final 10-6.

Budd was outstanding on this day, but Allison also had a terrific day as he picked up three goals on the afternoon. Madden and sophomore Kirk Clark each picked up five ground balls while Budd and sophomores Julien Speyer and Taylor Page each had four. Clark and Page also caused two turnovers.

Hood was fantastic in goal as he picked up 13 saves on 19 shots on goal.

Millsaps gets the win they've been craving and improves to 1-4 on the season. They also set a school record for most goals scored in a game with 10. They return to action next Saturday as they welcome in the Rhodes Lynx and look to build momentum off this win. The game will be at Harper Davis Field and is set to begin at 1 p.m.
