BRIDGEWATER, Va. – On a cold Sunday afternoon at Jopson Field, the Bridgewater Eagles men's lacrosse team didn't have enough firepower to overcome a solid Lynchburg attack as the Eagles fell to the sixth-ranked Hornets by a 23-1 tally.

Lynchburg scored early and often in the victory, netting eight first-quarter goals and four second-quarter tallies to build a 12-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Hornets tallied the first four goals before Bridgewater got on the scoreboard with 2:42 to go in the third quarter. Rob Simmons took a pass from Isaac Ortiz and beat the Lynchburg keeper to trim the Hornets' lead to 16-1.

Lynchburg rounded out the scoring in the contest with seven straight goals to roll to a 23-1 victory over Bridgewater.

Nathan Muckle and Thomas Maher each fired off three shots for the Eagles in the loss as Bridgewater was outshot on the afternoon by a 51-19 tally.

Freshman Austen Johnson picked up the loss after allowing 10 goals across the first 16:54 of play. Andrew Buss came in to relieve Johnson and allowed 10 goals while turning away nine Lynchburg shots.

Lynchburg was paced on the offensive end by Austen Stewart's five-goal effort.

Adam Davey picked up the win for Lynchburg in the cage, turning away four Bridgewater shots along the way.

Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday at Randolph. Start time against the WildCats is set for 1 p.m.
