Bridgeport Barrage vs. New Jersey Pride

The Game Story:
(Bridgeport, CT, July 31, 2003) - The Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut's only Major League Lacrosse Team, were defeated by the New Jersey Pride, 22-14, on Thursday evening in front of 2,473 fans at Harbor Yard. The Pride improve to 6-0 all-time against the Barrage.

The Barrage started out strong in the first quarter as Blake Miller (1g,1a), Chris Rotelli (1g), Nicky Polanco (1g), and Doug Shanahan (1g) all scored for Bridgeport. Polanco scored his first goal since June 7, 2002 against the Pride, giving him three all-time, two against New Jersey.

The Pride came back in the second quarter as they outscored the Barrage 8-4 to take the lead at halftime 11-8. Jon Hess led the Pride charge with two goals and one assist in the first half.

The Barrage came out of the locker room after halftime ready to play as Michael Springer found Keith Cromwell in front of the goal 22 seconds into the quarter. Matt Striebel scored his first goal of the contest, less than a minute after Cromwell^s goal. New Jersey went on a four goal scoring run after Bridgeport^s two initial goals, and ultimately outscored the Barrage for the second quarter in a row, 8-6.

A seven minute thirty-three second scoring drought that spanned from :30 seconds left in the third quarter and into the fourth quarter was brought to a halt by four consecutive New Jersey goals to end the game. The Barrage were held to a scoreless fourth quarter as Dan Denihan scored the last Bridgeport goal with 30 seconds left in the third quarter.

Both Jesse Hubbard (4g, 3a) and Scott Urick (5g, 1a) had six points for the Pride in the win. Urick was named the Bud Light MVP for his efforts against the Barrage. Trevor Tierney had 13 saves for the Pride, and both Matt Hunter and Justin Cynar had 8 saves between the pipes for Bridgeport.

The Barrage next travel to face the Rochester Rattlers at Kearney Field on August 2nd.
