The Game Story:
USAFA, Colo. – The No. 18 University of Denver men’s lacrosse team held in-state rival Air Force to just one goal, as the Pioneers ended the regular season with a 14-1 win over the Great Western Lacrosse League foe Falcons on Saturday afternoon at Cadet Stadium.

The one goal allowed was the fewest for a Pioneer opponent since DU defeated Colorado College, 12-1 on March 26, 2001.

“It’s always good to end the regular season on such a positive note,” head coach Jamie Munro said. “We have momentum headed into the first ever GWLL tournament and hope to capitalize on that.”

Freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) scored five goals in the contest, improving his season total to 44. It’s the highest total by a Pioneer in DU’s Division I history. The Pioneers received offensive contributions from 12 players.

All three DU (10-5, 4-1 GWLL) goalies saw action in the contest, with sophomore Peyton Tyrie (Greenwood Village, Colo.) recording a career-high 12 saves.

Freshman Vince Kemp (Troy, Mich.) was 4-for-6 from the face-off “X,” but the Pioneers lost its only statistical category of the day, winning just five of 18 face-offs.

Junior Cliff Smith (Surrey, B.C.) put DU on the board first with an unassisted goal at 10:23 in the first period. Sophomore Dillon Roy (Denver, Colo.) and junior Joey Murray (Denver, Colo.) followed with back-to-back unassisted goals as DU pushed out to a 3-0 lead.

Denver jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Griffin Nevitt recorded a goal for the Falcons (3-9, 1-4 GWLL) at 5:20 in the second quarter. DU’s goalies would hold the Falcons scoreless for the final 35:20 of the game.

Freshmen Andrew Lay (Denver, Colo.) and Ryan Fanning (Dallas, Texas) recorded goals in the fourth quarter for DU as the Pioneers went on to victory.

Lincoln and sophomore John Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) were the only two Pioneers to score multiple goals, with Dickenson adding two. Sophomore Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) and Smith added two assists apiece in the victory.

DU, currently second in the GWLL, will participate in the first ever GWLL tournament, beginning May 2 in Birmingham, Mich.
