Brooks Korvin had two goals and two assists and Jason Peyer, Kevin LoRusso and Justin Bokmeyer each scored twice as the Black Knights improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Army, off to its best start since the 1993 team went 5-0, also received two assists from Ryan Chase and a goal from Paul Wigdzinski. Adam Fullerton won his fourth game of the season and made seven saves.
Korvin, a sophomore attack, had a career day with his two goals and two assists. It was the first multiple-goal and multiple-assist game of his career. He now has four goals on the season.
Peyer, also a sophomore, scored two goals for the first time in his career while Bokmeyer followed up a four-goal effort against Holy Cross with two against the Leopards. He now has nine goals on the season.
LoRusso now has scored in four straight games and has five tallies on the season.
“I was very pleased with our attack,” Army coach Joe Alberici said. “We put it upon them to step up their game and I thought they did that today. They also did an outstanding job of riding and contesting every clear. They really got us going and that set the tone.”
Fullerton was credited with seven saves and now has 50 on the season.
Matt Mersky had a goal and assist for Lafayette, now 0-3 and 0-2 in the Patriot League. Porter Curran also scored.
Peyer opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game, converting a Korvin pass. Korvin then scored two straight, the first off a Hunter Wakeland assist and the second from Jay Larson for a 3-0 lead with five minutes left in the game. Bokmeyer had an unassisted goal before Curran scored to make it 4-1 after the first 15 minutes.
“Any time you can hold a team to two goals in 60 minutes of lacrosse you have to be pleased and I am,” Alberici said. “I thought we did a good job defending and were strong on the ball. Our defense gave Adam shots he had a chance of saving and it was a good win against a solid Lafayette team.”
Following a scoreless second period, LoRusso scored off a Peyer pass and Wigdzinski found net off a Korvin assist to make it 6-1 with 10:45 left in the third quarter. LoRusso scored his second goal off a Chase pass and Bokmeyer knocked in a shot with seven seconds left in the quarter. Peyer capped his day with a fourth-quarter goal.
The Black Knights will host Cornell Saturday at 1 p.m. at Michie Stadium. |
