The Game Story:
Providence, RI - Junior attackman Jon Thompson (Freeport, ME) scored two fourth quarter goals, including the go-ahead and game winning goals to lead the Brown men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 Ivy League victory over Harvard. The win lifts the Bears to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League, while Harvard lost its fourth straight game to fall to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in Ivy play.

With the score tied, 7-7, Thompson gave Brown the lead for good when he scored at the 5:31 mark of the fourth quarter on a pass from sophomore Rich Tuohey (Annapolis, MD). Thompson gave the Bears a much-needed insurance goal at the 11:37 mark, scoring on a pass from freshman Ryan Culligan (Cortlandt Manor, NY) to give the Bears a 9-7 advantage. Harvard's Matt Primm scored an unassisted goal at 12:48 to cut the Brown advantage to 9-8.

Brown led 3-1 after one quarter on a goal by senior Matt Kelley (Haverford, PA) and two goals by junior Michael Hughes (Rockville Centre, NY). The Crimson scored three unanswered goals, two by Jeff Gottschall and one by Derek Nowak, to take a 4-3 advantage at the 10:32 mark of the second quarter on Gottschall's unassisted goal. Brown sophomore Brian Miller (Monkton, MD) tied the game, 4-4, on an unassisted goal with 19 seconds left in the half.

Two third quarter goals by senior Jimmy Mormile (Oceanside, NY) lifted the Bears to a 6-4 advantage early in the quarter. Harvard's Gottschall scored at the 10:06 mark to cut the Bears advantage to 6-5 after three quarters. Mormile netted his third goal of the game just nine seconds into the fourth quarter to give the Bears a 7-5 lead. But goals by the Crimson's Mike McBride at 1:22 and Jay Wich at 3:45 of the fourth quarter tied the game, 7-7.

The Bears outshot the Crimson by a 38-24 margin. Sophomore Mike Levin (Pittsford, NY) made 10 saves in goal for Brown, while Harvard's goalie Jake McKenna, registered 11 saves.

The Bears will return to Ivy League action on Sunday, April 14th, traveling to Philadelphia to face the Penn Quakers.
