| The Game Story: | Providence, Rhode Island - Senior All-American Jon Thompson
(Freeport, ME) scored four goals and handed out two assists to lead
the Brown men's lacrosse team to an 11-5 win over cross-town rival
Providence College. The Bears are now 4-8 overall, while Providence
drops to 6-8 overall.
Brown jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead on goals by junior
Charles Towers (Cold Spring Harbor, NY), sophomore Britton Derkac
(Virginia Beach, VA) and sophomore Chris Mucciolo (Manhasset, NY).
The Friars clawed back by scoring three of the next four goals,
pulling to within one goal of the Bears, 4-3, on a goal by junior
Ryan Russell at the 9:28 mark of the second quarter.
The Bears broke the game open with three unanswered goals, two by
Thompson and one by junior Brian Miller, to grab a 7-3 lead at the
half.
The Friars got back into the game with third quarter goals by
freshman Tom Kelly and sophomore Jon Hollister, to trail 7-5 at the
9:25 mark of the third quarter. The Bears went on to score the
game's final four goals, with Thompson scoring twice, junior Rich
Tuohey (Annapolis, MD) scoring once and Derkac adding his second goal
of the game.
Thompson's four goals led all scorers, while Miller and Derkac added
two goals each for the Bears. Kelly led the Friars with two goals.
Junior All-American Mike Levin (Pittsford, NY) made 11 saves in goal
for the Bears, allowing the fewest goals in his Brown career.
Sophomore Andrew McMimm made 12 saves for Providence.
Brown will be at home again on Saturday against Cornell for its final
home game of the season. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
