The Game Story:
Providence, Rhode Island - Junior attackman Michael Springer scored an unassisted goal with 1:19 remaining in the first overtime period to rally number one ranked Syracuse to a 14-13 win over Brown at Stevenson Field. The win lifts Syracuse to 7-1 overall, while Brown falls to 2-4 overall, losing its four games by a total of five goals.

Brown junior All-American Chas Gessner (Hyattsville, MD) scored his third goal of the game with 5:46 remaining to tie the score, 12-12. Senior attackman Mike Albarelli (Chester, NJ) gave Brown a 13-12 lead with 4:24 remaining in the fourth quarter, scoring on a pass from freshman Ryan Culligan (Cortlandt Manor, NY). The Orangemen drew even when sophomore Sean Lindsay scored on a pass from senior Brian Solliday with just 36 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime.

Both teams had a chance for victory in overtime. Syracuse's Spencer Wright had two shots at Brown sophomore goalie Mike Levin (Pittsford, NY), while Brown's Gessner was stopped at point blank range by the Orangemen's goalie Jay Pfeifer. The game was played at a frenetic pace with neither team leading by more than two goals at any time. The game was tied eight different times, and there were four lead changes.

Brown took a 7-6 lead at halftime when Gessner scored with 58 seconds left in the second quarter to give the Bears a 7-6 lead at intermission. The Bears opened their biggest lead of the game, 8-6, when senior Jimmy Mormile (Oceanside, NY) scored on a pass from Culligan, early in the third quarter.

Syracuse answered with three unanswered goals by Jarrett Park, Brian Nee and Michael Powell to grab a 9-8 advantage at the 6:01 mark of the third quarter.

Mormile scored his fourth goal of the game to knot the score at 9-9, but Solliday put the Orangemen in the lead again, 10-9. A Brown goal by junior Jon Thompson was answered by Solliday once again to give the Orangemen an 11-10 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams exchanged goals once again with Brown scoring on a goal by Culligan and Syracuse responding with a goal by Powell to take a 12-11 lead. Overall, the Bears were led by Mormile, who scored four goals and added two assists. Gessner finished the day with three goals, while Culligan, Jon Thompson (Freeport, ME) and Albarelli scored two goals each.

Powell led the Orangemen with three goals and one assist, while Springer, Park, and Solliday added two goals apiece. Brown goalie Mike Levin was spectacular, making 18 saves as the Orangemen fired 57 shots at the Brown goal. Jay Pfeifer registered six saves for the Orangemen.
