The Game Story:
VERO BEACH, Fla. - Freshman Mike Bocklet (Katonah, N.Y.) scored the game-winner as the clock wound down to give the Fairfield University men^Òs lacrosse team an exciting non-conference victory over Colgate, 9-8, on Wednesday evening at St. Edward^Òs high school in Vero Beach, Fla. With the win, the Stags improve to 4-1 on the season while the Raiders fall to 2-3.

Colgate opened the game on a 3-1 run before the Stags evened the game at five apiece going into the halftime break.

The teams battled back-and-fourth in the third and fourth quarters, with no one taking more than a one goal lead until the Raiders scored back-to-back goals to take an 8-6 advantage with 2:20 left in the game. Senior Tom Werney (Granite Springs, N.Y.) made it a one-point game and Bocklet tied it up at eight apiece before scoring the eventual game-winner off a pass from Werney with 1:34 showing on the clock.

The Stags outshot Colgate, 31-20, and senior Peter Vlahakis (Shoreham, N.Y.) was solid on face-offs, winning 12-of-19 attempts and adding an assist.

Freshman Michael Kruger (Ellicott City, Md.) made 13 saves while Raider Andrew Jarolimek posted 11.

Fairfield was led by senior Rory McCarthy (Camillus, N.Y.) with four points off one goal and three assists while Werney registered three points off two goals and one assist. Freshman Greg Downing (Auburn, N.Y.) and Bocklet who scored two goals each while senior Matt Baglio (Brightwaters, N.Y.) and senior Troy Bamann (Victor, N.Y.) had one score for the Stags.

Raider goals were tallied by Jeff Vander Muelen (3), Brian Robinson (2), Ramsey Brame, Brendan Hurley and Andrew Goodwin.

The Stags are back in action on Sat., March 20, as they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to face Harvard on Jordan Field at 7 p.m.
