| The Game Story: | HANOVER, N.H. - Cornell's David Mitchell scored five goals, and the No. 1 Big Red took a 17-3 victory over the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team on Saturday.
Cornell remained undefeated at 10-0 (4-0 Ivy) while the Big Green slipped to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Dartmouth opened the scoring with 1:31 gone in the first quarter. Taking advantage of a man-up situation, sophomore Brian Koch (Rye, N.Y.) took a feed from freshman Josh Gillam (Peterborough, Ont.).
But the potent Cornell offense - which came into the week leading the nation with 14.50 goals per game - answered quickly. The Big Red scored the next six goals - including three in a row by Eric Pittard - for a 6-1 lead after one period.
Cornell outshot Dartmouth, 46-29, as Big Green goalkeeper Michael Novosel (Somers, N.Y.) made 12 saves in 53 minutes. Sophomore Pat Marshall (Lutherville, Md.) came on in relief.
Dartmouth's other goals were scored by Gillam and junior Will Boardman (Brattleboro, Vt.). It was the Big Green's most lopsided loss since 2001 when Princeton stopped Dartmouth, 19-2.
The Big Green starts a five-game road trip on Wednesday, April 18, taking on Ivy rival Yale at 3 pm.
