the second half, surging past Penn, 9-4, in Ivy League action on Saturday.
With the game tied, 3-3, after one quarter, the Big Green's Ben
Grinnell scored the only goal of the second period for a 4-3 lead at halftime.
Dartmouth built a 6-3 lead after the third period and after Penn's D.J.
Andrzejewski scored to make it 6-4, the Big Green responded with three
unanswered goals.
The win was the first of the Ivy League campaign for Dartmouth, who
shared last year's conference championship with Princeton and Cornell. Dating
back to last spring, the Big Green has now won six straight games at home on
Scully-Fahey Field.
Dartmouth and Penn traded goals throughout the opening quarter as
senior Russell Radebaugh netted two for the Big Green.
With 1:38 left on the clock in the second period, Grinnell, a junior,
gave Dartmouth the lead for good at 4-3, before sophomores Jamie Coffin and
Alec Hufnagel boosted the lead to 6-3 less than three minutes into the third.
Andrzejewski's goal came at the 9:30 mark of the fourth to get the
Quakers within two, but Coffin potted two goals less than two minutes apart and
senior Tom Daniels followed with another, giving Dartmouth some insurance.
Junior goalkeeper Andrew Goldstein went most of the way for Dartmouth,
making 10 saves in 58:52 before freshman Matt DeMarco came on in relief. For
Penn, Ryan Kelly made 11 saves.
Dartmouth's overall record is 6-2 going into a crucial Ivy game at
Cornell on Saturday, April 17, which is scheduled to be televised by CSTV,
College Sports Television.
Penn is 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Ivy League.
