the Princeton Tigers defeated the Big Green, 10-8, in Ivy League men's lacrosse
action.
Although Dartmouth sophomore Brad Heritage netted three goals,
Princeton avenged last year's 13-6 loss to the Big Green. Along with Cornell,
the Tigers and Dartmouth shared the 2003 Ivy League title.
Princeton (8-3 overall, 4-1 Ivy) jumped out to a 5-1 lead midway
through the second quarter as Peter Trombino and Jason Doneger each scored a
pair of goals.
Dartmouth (7-5 overall, 2-3 Ivy) roared back with four straight for a
5-5 lead at the break. Junior Brandon Wright made it 5-2 before senior Tom
Daniels got back-to-back goals for the Big Green.
Heritage scored his second of the afternoon with 1:03 on the clock.
Princeton's Scott Sowanick and Dartmouth's Jamie Coffin traded goals
early in the third quarter, keeping it 6-6.
With 2:04 left in the third, senior Russell Radebaugh appeared to give
the Big Green the lead, 7-6, but the goal was disallowed because of an illegal
stick.
Princeton regained the momentum when Ryan Boyle scored with 1:11 left
in the third, followed 18 seconds later by a Drew Casino goal for an 8-6 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Heritage and Coffin sandwiched goals around one
by Casino, making it 9-8. With Dartmouth's Andrew Goldstein out of the goal in
favor of an extra attacker, Princeton's Boyle added an empty-netter with 41
seconds remaining.
For Dartmouth, Coffin and Daniels had two goals apiece, while junior
Ben Grinnell had five assists. In the nets, Goldstein had six saves and
Princeton's Dave Law made nine.
Dartmouth closes the season on Saturday, May 8 with a 7 p.m. game at
Harvard.
