The Game Story:
DENVER – Freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) tallied six goals and had one assist as the No. 18 University of Denver men’s lacrosse team defeated the visiting Quinnipiac Bobcats 14-8 at Barton Lacrosse Stadium Friday night.

With his six goals, Lincoln moved into a tie with current assistant coach Matt Brown for most goals in a season by a DU freshman at 32.

Denver (8-4, 2-0 GWLL) received multi-point efforts from Lincoln, junior Cliff Smith (Surrey, B.C.), sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) and senior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.).

Quinnipiac (6-3, 0-2 GWLL) recorded its third straight loss. Todd Kaiser netted three goals for the Bobcats while Anthony Poerio had two.

“Tonight was a big win for us,” head coach Jamie Munro said. “It was one of those games where we came out hard and jumped on them early but then got sloppy. I was pleased that the guys came back and picked it up late in the second half. This team has been good at getting fired up when we need them to.”

The Pioneers took a 4-0 lead after the first period. Lincoln scored twice in the opening 3:32 while Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) netted his career-high fifth goal of the season.

Just 1:33 into the second, junior Mike Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) netted his third goal of the year on an unassisted effort to put the Pioneers up 5-0. However, Quinnipiac’s Tyler McCabe got the Bobcats on the board 1:46 later.

The teams headed into halftime with Denver holding a 7-2 lead. Paulson and Lincoln joined Anderson in recording second-period goals for the Pioneers.

Denver extended its lead to six at 11-5 at the close of the third period. Lincoln netted a pair of goals while sophomore John Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) and Smith also scored.

Quinnipiac twice cut Denver’s lead to four at 11-7 and 12-8 in the fourth quarter, but the Pioneers held on for the victory.

Junior goaltender Austin Konkel (Aurora, Colo.) registered four saves for DU, sophomore Peyton Tyrie (Greenwood Village, Colo.) made three. Sophomore Peter Lowell (Freeport, Maine) also saw time in net for DU. Quinnipiac’s Kevin Benzing recorded 11 saves.

Denver concludes its regular season home schedule against Bellarmine on Sunday, April 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The Pioneers are 2-0 all-time against the Knights.
