The Tigers (5-3, 1-1 CAA) held the Dragons (7-3, 0-2) scoreless in the final 28 minutes of the first half to take control of the contest.
Towson's Brian Vetter opened the scoring at the 13:11 mark. Drexel's Jesse Rumble tied the game just 10 seconds later as he picked up a loose ball off the face off and beat Towson goalkeeper Reed Sotherdeen to tie the game at one. The Tigers took the lead for good at the 10:06 mark when Todd MacMullan found Jonathan Engelke who converted to give Towson a 2-1 advantage. The game stayed close for most of the second period, but Towson came on strong in the final minutes of the half. Bobby Greibe scored three-consecutive goals in the final 3:11 of the half to give Towson a 5-1 lead at the break.
Jesse Rumble had his second goal of the game in the first minute of the third quarter, but Towson answered with five-straight goals to take a commanding lead. Five different Tigers found the back of the net including Greibe, who had his fourth of the day, as Towson opened up a 10-2 lead. Each team added three goals in the final 11 minutes of play. Jeff Pfeffer started the scoring for the Dragons. Engelke, Keith Obloj and Ryan Preuss had goals for Towson before Drexel added two goals in the final two minutes. Sean Moloney and Matt Musci had the Dragons' goals. Sothoron had seven saves in goal for the Tigers before being replaced by Drew Montgomery. Drexel's Bryan Maggio also had seven saves. Bruce Bickford had two saves after replacing Maggio to start the fourth period.
Drexel plays three of its final four games on the road. The Dragons begin that stretch on Saturday in a CAA contest against Sacred Heart. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. |
