DURHAM, N.C. - Kevin Cassese and Dan Chemotti scored three goals apiece and Alex Lieske handed out five assists to lead ninth-ranked Duke to a 12-4 win over visiting Butler in collegiate men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.

The game marked the season opener for both teams. The Blue Devils improved to 10-2 in season openers under 12th-year head coach Mike Pressler.

Cassese put the Blue Devils on top 1-0 with a goal from Chemotti at the 5:55 mark of the opening period. After Matt Rewkowski's goal from Lieske gave Duke a 2-0 lead, Butler's Rich Pavlick tallied back-to-back goals to even the score early in the second quarter.

The Blue Devils then scored five straight goals to take a 7-2 lead into intermission. Chemotti got the run started with an extra man goal at the 11:45 mark. After Mack Hardaker and Rewkowski found the back of the net, Chemotti pushed the advantage to 6-2 with a goal from Lieske at the 6:56 mark. Less than one minute later, Terrence Keaney scored for a 7-2 lead.

Cassese and Chemotti opened the scoring in the third quarter for a 9-2 Duke lead before Ryan Ward scored for the Bulldogs. Duke's Devan Wray then scored with just three seconds remaining in the period for a 10-2 Blue Devil advantage. In the fourth quarter, Cassese and Keaney tallied for Duke while Matt Eizenberg added an unassisted goal for Butler.

Duke goalkeeper A.J. Kincel was credited with six saves while his counterpart, Butler's Kevin Winkler, made 15 saves. Cassese helped the Blue Devil cause by winning six-of-seven face-offs and collecting nine ground balls.
