| | | | Current Record : (9-1) | Current Record : (4-3) | | | | Go to team page > | Go to team page > | | | | | | The Game Story: | DURHAM, N.C. -- Matt Danowski posted three goals and three assists to become just the third player in NCAA history to register 150 goals and 150 assists in a career as third-ranked Duke defeated Harvard, 10-3, in men's college lacrosse action on Tuesday night at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils, who scored 10 consecutive goals while holding the Crimson scoreless for 50:57, improve to 9-1 on the year while Harvard falls to 4-3.
With three goals and three assists on the night, Danowski pushed his career totals to 151 goals and 153 assists to join Air Force's Joe Vasta (173 goals & 170 assists) and Syracuse's Michael Powell (150 goals & 157 assists) as the only players to reach the 150-150 plateau. Danowski, who led the nation in total points in both 2005 and 2007, currently leads the country in scoring with 48 total points on 22 goals and 26 assists.
Danowski also became just the sixth player to reach the 300-point plateau in a career. He currently sits in sixth place on the NCAA's all-time scoring chart with 304 points, 39 points shy of Vasta's career record of 343 points.
Playing in their 54th career victory, Danowski, Tony McDevitt, Nick O'Hara and Michael Ward moved into a tie for eighth place on the NCAA's all-time win chart.
Harvard opened the night's scoring with goals from Jesse Fehr and Jason Duboe at the 10:13 and 6:10 marks to claim a 2-0 lead. Ned Crotty got Duke on the scoreboard with 2:49 left in the opening period to trim the deficit in half. In the second period, Danowski, Zach Howell and Zack Greer each found the back of the net to send the teams to halftime with the Blue Devils ahead, 4-2.
Danowski sandwiched two goals around a tally by Michael Young in the third quarter as the Blue Devils held Harvard scoreless for a second straight period to claim a 7-2 lead after 45 minutes. Greer then scored twice in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter and Max Quinzani added his nation-leading 29th goal of the year with 8:18 left in the game as Duke completed a 10-0 run. Nick Sapia scored with 2:53 remaining to account for the final margin.
Greer scored three goals to push his career total to 167 and move into ninth place on the NCAA's all-time list. He also moved past Virginia's Doug Knight and into second place on the ACC's career list, 26 goals short of the league mark of 193 held by N.C. State's Stan Cockerton. Greer now has scored at least one goal in 52-of-57 career games while the Blue Devils improve to 33-0 when the Whitby, Ontario, Canada native scores three or more goals.
In goal, Dan Loftus pushed his career record to 33-7 by posting eight saves against two goals allowed in 53:07 in the Duke net. Harvard's Joe Pike was credited for 14 saves while surrendering 10 goals on the night.
Duke's Sam Payton won eight-of-11 face-offs while Nick O'Hara secured a game-high eight ground balls.
Duke will next travel to face Dartmouth in Hempstead, N.Y., on Saturday at 4 p.m. Harvard continues on the road to play Denver on Saturday at 3 p.m. |
