In the second quarter, Monfett scored at the 13:10 mark, but Nowak answered less than one minute later to make the score 5-2. After Hardaker tallied his third goal of the game, the Crimson scored the final two goals of the period to close within 6-4 at intermission.

The Blue Devil defense shut out Harvard in the third period while Kevin Brennan and Hardaker found the back of the net for an 8-4 Duke advantage heading into the final quarter.

Brennan scored with 13:46 remaining in the game for a 9-4 lead, but Harvard recorded three unanswered goals to make the score 9-7 on Jay Wich's tally at the 8:50 mark. Duke stopped the run on Monfett's second goal of the game which accounted for the final margin.
