Monfett added two goals and two assists to lead ninth-ranked Duke to a
10-7 win over 19th-ranked Harvard in collegiate men's lacrosse action on
Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils improve to 4-3 on the year while the Crimson falls to
4-2.
Duke went on top 3-0 in the first seven minutes of the game as Hardaker,
Matt Rewkowski and Taylor Wray tallied goals. After Derek Nowak put
Harvard on the board, Hardaker's goal at the 5:25 mark of the opening
period pushed the Duke lead to 4-1.
In the second quarter, Monfett scored at the 13:10 mark, but Nowak
answered less than one minute later to make the score 5-2. After
Hardaker tallied his third goal of the game, the Crimson scored the
final two goals of the period to close within 6-4 at intermission.
The Blue Devil defense shut out Harvard in the third period while Kevin
Brennan and Hardaker found the back of the net for an 8-4 Duke advantage
heading into the final quarter.
Brennan scored with 13:46 remaining in the game for a 9-4 lead, but
Harvard recorded three unanswered goals to make the score 9-7 on Jay
Wich's tally at the 8:50 mark. Duke stopped the run on Monfett's second
goal of the game which accounted for the final margin.
Brennan finished the day with two goals and one assist while Alex Lieske
picked up three assists. For Harvard, Nowak led the way with two goals.
Harvard goalkeeper Jake McKenna was credited with 12 saves while Duke's
A.J. Kincel made 13 saves.
Duke takes to the road to meet eighth-ranked Princeton on Friday night
at 7:00 p.m. while Harvard returns home to host 12th-ranked Cornell on
Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
