DURHAM, N.C. -- Terrence Molinari scored four goals while Josh Coveleski and Zach Howell added three tallies apiece to lead top-ranked Duke to an 18-4 win over visiting Presbyterian in college lacrosse action on Tuesday night at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils improve to 6-0 on the year while the Blue Hose fall to 0-5.
Duke scored four goals in the opening four minutes of the contest and led 7-0 after one period. The second quarter featured two goals by Coveleski and the teams went to halftime with the Blue Devils ahead, 11-0.
After Molinari's unassisted goal put Duke ahead 12-0 with 14:11 left in the third quarter, Presbyterian got on the scoreboard when Cory Stemshorn found the back of the net at the 10:07 mark. Sam Solie then tallied for the Blue Devils before Presbyterian's Casey Minick scored with one second remaining in the quarter to cut the lead to 13-2.
The Blue Devils outscored Presbyterian by a 5-2 total in the final quarter to account for the final margin.
Rob Wellington, Brandon Allen and Solie contributed two goals each for Duke while Chris Loftus handed out a career-high four assists. In goal, Rob Schroeder started and worked a scoreless first period while Devon Sherwood (30 minutes, 2 goals allowed, 3 saves) and Max Wygod (15 minutes, 2 goals allowed, 1 save) also saw action.
Duke enjoyed plenty of success at the X, winning 17-of-25 face-offs with Wellington (5-of-6), Molinari (6-of-8) and Allen (5-of-7) leading the charge.
For Presbyterian, Marc Handel led the offensive attack with one goal and two assists. Goalkeeper Jon Athens was credited for 10 saves against 17 goals allowed in 57:22 of work between the pipes.
With the win, Duke has now won 21 of its last 23 home games and is 59-11 since 2000.
The Blue Devils remain at home to entertain third-ranked North Carolina on Saturday at 3 p.m.
