| The Game Story: | FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men^Òs lacrosse team suffered its
first loss of the season, falling to Brown University, 12-7 on Saturday
afternoon in a non-conference match-up on Alumni Field. With the loss the Stags
fall to 3-1 while the Bears improve to 3-0 on the season.
Brown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off goals by Chazz Woodson and Dave
Madeira before senior Tom Werney (Granite Springs, N.Y.) got the Stags on the
board with a man-down goal with 6:36 remaining in the first period.
Fifteen-seconds later, Bear Richard Tuohey made the score 3-1 and Woodson gave
Brown its largest lead of the first-half, 4-1, seven seconds into the second
period.
Fairfield got two unanswered goals as senior Matt Baglio (Brightwaters, N.Y.)
connected off a pass from freshman Mike Bocklet (Katonah, N.Y.) with 9:10 until
halftime and then Bocklet added a tally with the assist credited to senior Troy
Bamann (Victor, N.Y.), to make the score 4-3 at the intermission.
The teams traded goals in the third period as Woodson extended the Brown lead
to 5-3 before Baglio made it 5-4 with 3:14 left in the third. Freshman Greg
Downing (Auburn, N.Y.) tied the game at five apiece off a pass from Baglio,
just over two minutes later, but it was short-lived as Alex Buckley scored
three unanswered goals to give the Bears an 8-5 advantage with just over 12
minutes to play.
Brown outscored the Stags 4-2 down the stretch with Fairfield^Òs unassisted
goals credited to senior Rory McCarthy (Camillus, N.Y.) and Baglio.
The Stags were led by Baglio^Òs four points off three goals and one assist
while the Bears were led by Woodson^Òs five tallies.
Freshman goalie Michael Kruger (Ellicott City, Md.) stopped 13 shots for
Fairfield while Brown goalie Mike Levin made five saves.
The Stags are back in action on Wed., March 17 as they travel to Vero Beach,
Fla., to face Colgate University at St. Edward^Òs high school at 5 p.m.
