The Game Story:
The Fairfield University men’s lacrosse team fell two goals short, 10-8, in its upset bid of #5 Georgetown University in an ECAC Lacrosse League game on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Stags to 3-6 on the year and 1-3 in league play, while the Hoyas improve to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in ECAC action.

Georgetown out scored the Stags 4-2 in the third quarter to take a7-5 advantage into the final quarter. Todd Baxter scored for the Stags, with 10:27 remaining, tapping in a pass from Ryan Mulford, to close the deficit to one, 7-6. The Hoyas answered with 8:46 to play, as Chase Gahan touched net.

The Stags would score the next two goals, in an 18 second span, to knot the game, 8-8 with 7:26 to play. Baxter scored his second goal, finishing a pass from Dan Boudreau with 7:44 to play. After the Stags controlled the ensuing face-off Chris Ajemian put home a pass from Travis Nelson for the tie. The game would remain scoreless for the next 3:22 until Brendan Cannon put home his second of the game for the game-winner, with 4:04 to play. Andrew Baird would add an insurance goal at the 3:27 mark to lock up the win.

Baxter finished the game with four points for the Stags, with a pair of goals and two assists. Ajemian also had a pair of goals for the Stags, while Ryan Mulford finished with a goal and an assist, as did Nelson.

Cannon had four points for the Hoyas, with two goals and two assists, to lead the team. Craig Dowd scored a goal and two assists, while Todd Cochran, Ricky Mirabito and Baird each scored twice for Georgetown.

Joe Marra played 54:40 in goal for the Stags, making 11 saves and allowing 10 goals. Jeff Cilente played 5:20 in the crease, with one save. Miles Kass picked up the win for Georgetown with nine saves.

Fairfield controlled the face-off, winning 14-22, including 8-10 by Rob Simeti. The Stags also recorded more ground balls, 44-40 than the Hoyas, with a team-high six by Matt Scanlon. Scanlon had a game-high three caused turnovers as well. The Hoyas out shot Fairfield 43-31 and had fewer turnovers, 26-19, in the game.

The Stags are back in action on Saturday, April 12, when they host Yale University in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. on Lessing Field. Fairfield will honor its senior class prior to that contest.
