The Game Story:
WASHINGTON, DC -- The Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (9-3, 4-1) defeated Rutgers 14-7 in an ECAC match up on a rainy North Kehoe field. Nick Miaritis (Sr., Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored four goals to lead the Hoyas over the Scarlet Knights. In addition, the Hoyas also recognized 10 graduating seniors in senior day pre-game ceremonies.

The Hoyas never trailed, tallying two goals early in the first quarter by Miaritis and Sean Denihan (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset). Rutgers answered back with two goals by Nate Sanderson and Sean Battoni to tie it up, but Pete Cannon (Haverford, PA/The Haverford School) notched a goal, one of three on the day, with 4:48 remaining in the first quarter to give the Hoyas the 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Georgetown again scored first, when Trevor Casey (So., Bethesda, MD/Georgetown Prep) notched a goal with 8:45 remaining to give the Hoyas a two-goal cushion. That cushion would not stay for long as Rutgers rallied and scored two goals within a minute and a half of each other to tie up the game 4-4. Brice Queener (Sr., Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) added a goal with eight seconds remaining in the first half to give the Hoyas the 5-4 edge at the half.

Miaritis tallied his third goal of the game less then a minute into the third quarter, again giving the Hoyas a two-goal margin. Cannon added another tally eight minutes later to extend the lead to three. Georgetown continued to dominate the third quarter, as Cannon registered another goal and Casey tallied his second of the day. Rutgers received their lone goal of the quarter from Matt Gaines.

Georgetown extended its lead in the fourth quarter, tallying four straight goals by Miaritis, Keith Schroeder (Summit, NJ/Summit), Andrew Baird (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and Mat Wilson (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve). The Scarlet Knights tried to rally, scoring two goals late but it was not enough to overcome the Hoyas, as the defense upheld and Miaritis added his fourth goal of the game with 39 seconds remaining.

Georgetown held a 17-8 advantage over Rutgers in the face-off circle, going 6-0 in the third quarter behind another dominating performance from senior Andy Corno (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) who ended the day 14-of-20. Rich D'Andrea (Sr., Belle Mead, NJ/The Peddie School) had 10 saves for the Hoyas.

The Hoyas will next host Penn State on May 8 at 12 noon on North Kehoe Field in their final regular season ECAC matchup.
