shots Tuesday night against Colgate. On his 15th try, he made sure to
make it count.
Logigian (Huntington, NY/Huntington) ran off a defender and
rifled a long shot past Colgate goaltender Chris Hettler with 1:04
left in double-overtime to give the Harvard men's lacrosse team an
7-6 win at Jordan Field. The thriller was Harvard's second
consecutive overtime victory and third overall, and improves the
Crimson to .500 on the year. Despite a three-point effort by Scott
Herbst, Colgate falls to 7-7.
Logigian's tally completed an impressive Harvard comeback
that saw the Crimson rally from a 5-1 third-quarter deficit. Freshman
attacker Mike McBride (Ridgewood, NJ/Delbarton) ignited the charge,
netting Harvard's second goal of the game off an assist by senior
Matt Primm (Westminster, MD/McDonogh) at the 4:41 mark of the third
quarter. Senior Michael Baly (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) followed up
with a tally of his own just under two minutes later. He then watched
as McBride struck a second time in the fourth period, again off a
set-up by Primm.
Colgate responded with a goal by midfielder Joe Parker to
extend its lead to 6-4, but Baly and McBride were not done. The pair
scored goals just ten seconds apart to knot the game at 6-6. McBride
set up Baly for the first goal with 2:30 left in the fourth, then
took a quick feed from Primm to net the equalizer. The goal-made
possible by one of 11 faceoff wins on the night by sophomore Alex Vap
(Chevy Chase, MD/St. Alban's)-gave McBride a game-high four points.
Both teams had prime opportunities to take the lead in the
closing seconds of regulation but were denied by the clutch play of
the two goalkeepers. First, Harvard sophomore Jake McKenna (Darien,
CT/Taft) stopped a shot by Colgate's Nick Gerken with 15 seconds left
after a failed Harvard clear. The Crimson was then able to advance
the ball all the way downfield, but McBride's bid at the buzzer was
stopped on an athletic play by Hettler.
For the game, McKenna had 18 saves, including four in the
first overtime when Harvard was outshot 6-2. Hettler had 16 stops for
Colgate.
The Crimson closes out its regular season at home this
Saturday against Dartmouth. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
