from Dartmouth College on Jordan Field in Cambridge, MA on Saturday
evening in the season finale for both teams. Harv ard finishes the
season with an 8-7b overall record (1-5 Ivy), while Dartmouth wraps
up the 2002 campaign with a 6-7 record overall and 0-6 in Ancient
Eight competition. It was fourth straight victory for the Crimson,
and also the third consecutive game that the team won by a 7-6 margin.
The teams traded goals in the first quarter and also played a
tight second frame, with the Big Green entering halftime with a
one-goal lead. Derek Nowak (New Haven, CT) scored his second of the
day at the 10:13 mark to put the Crimson up 3-2, but goals by David
Farber (Port Washington, NY) and Scott Roslyn (Philadelphia, PA) gave
the Big Green a 4-3 lead at the intermission.
Harvard rallied to put three straight goals on the board -
from Doug Logigian (Huntington, NY), Jeff Gottschall (Swampscott, MA)
and Mike McBride (Ridgewood, NJ) - in the first five minutes of the
third quarter to take a 6-4 lead. A Ben Grinnell (Waccabuc, NY) goal
brought Dartmouth within a goal at 6-5at the end of three quarters.
Farber netted his third goal of the day to knot the score at
six with 5:38 to play, but Logigian's second of the night - a rocket
off a feed from senior Mike Baly (Westfield, NJ) - put the Crimson
back up by a goal with 4;40 to play. Dartmouth pressed to get an
equalizing tally, but a pair of spectacular saves in the final 40
seconds by Harvard goalie Jake McKenna (Darien, CT) preserved the
lead as time expired.
McKenna finished the night with 11 saves, while his
counterpart Mike Gault (Wilton, CT) made 15 stops.
