The Game Story:
GENEVA, N.Y. - Patrick Christensen had five goals and an assist, but it wasn^Òt enough as the Bucknell men^Òs lacrosse team dropped a 13-9 Patriot League decision at Hobart Saturday afternoon at rainy McCooey Field. Chris Cara added a goal and three assists for the Bison, who fell to 4-5 on the season, 2-2 in Patriot League play. Hobart (4-4, 4-1) received four goals from Mike Conklin and two goals and have assists from Nate Hill.

Bucknell goalie Matt Baran made 16 saves, including eight in the second quarter to preserve a 4-4 halftime tie as the teams literally alternated goals throughout the opening 30 minutes. Christensen^Òs third of the half, off a feed from Cara, knotted the game at 4-apiece, and the Bison finally took the lead for the first time on Cara^Òs goal 49 seconds into the third period.

After Chris David tied it for the Statesmen, Cara fed Kirk Klett for a man-up goal at the 7:16 mark of the third quarter for a 6-5 Bison lead. But Hobart rattled off the next six goals in succession to take command of the contest.

David evened things at 6-all with 5:58 left in the third, and Conklin put Hobart ahead to stay with an EMO goal just under two minutes later. Rory Melvin and Hill added two more man-up tallies to open the fourth quarter, giving the Statesmen an 11-6 lead.

But the Bison weren^Òt finished, as Christensen scored twice in 35 seconds midway through the fourth quarter to pull them within 11-8. The Hill-to-Conklin combo worked twice in succession in a 45-second span to restore Hobart^Òs five-goal lead, and Christensen tacked on a late EMO goal off a Cara assist to make the final 13-9.

Hobart outshot Bucknell 40-35 and held a 42-27 ground ball edge. Both teams were excellent in man-up situations ^Ö the Bison were 3-for-5 and the Statesmen 3-for-4.

Dan Valente had 15 saves for Hobart, including seven in the fourth quarter.

Bucknell returns to action next Saturday, April 10, at Lafayette at 1 p.m.
