Georgetown University all it could handle this afternoon, but the Hoyas
escaped muddy Boswell Field with an 8-7 win. The only unbeaten in
Division I, Georgetown improves to 9-0, while the Statesmen fall to 5-5.
Trailing 8-5 heading into the final frame, junior midfielder Kris Shore
(Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) scored twice to pull Hobart to within one
with 6:44 remaining. The Statesmen had their best opportunity to tie the
game with 40 seconds remaining, but Nate Hill^Òs shot ricocheted off the
pipe. Georgetown collected the loose ball and ran out the clock.
^ÓWe were fortunate to come away with a win,^Ô former Hobart mentor and
current Georgetown Head Coach Dave Urick said. ^Ó[Hobart Head Coach and
former Hoya assistant coach Matt] Kerwick has this program going in the
right direction.^Ô
The Hoyas got off to a fast start, netting all three first quarter
goals. Hobart got its offense going in the second quarter as sophomore
midfielder T.J. Rogers (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua, N.Y.) scored an
extra-man goal less than three minutes into the frame, and junior John
Bogosian (Kent School/Massena, N.Y.) added a short-handed tally less
than a minute later to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Senior attackman Doug Staab (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) gave
Georgetown a two-goal cushion with 10:19 remaining in the opening half,
but the teams headed into the intermission locked in a one-goal game
thanks to Bogosian^Òs second goal of the afternoon at the 6:10 mark.
Staab finished with a team-high three goals. Bogosian had two goals and
an assist.
The Hoyas got four goals from four different players in the third
quarter to build an 8-5 lead with 15 minutes remaining. Georgetown^Òs
final goal of the afternoon, with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter
proved to be the only goal of the day for the nation^Òs leading scorer,
Steve Dusseau (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio).
Dusseau began the week leading the nation in points and goals per game,
averaging 5.12 points and 4.13 goals per contest. In eight previous
games this season, only Cornell kept him from a hat trick (2 goals), but
credit Hobart^Òs Brad Neuberth (Westminster/Riverside, Conn.) with
limiting the Tewaaraton Trophy nominee to just one goal and an assist.
^ÓIt was a tremendous individual effort by Brad against one of, if not
the best player in the nation,^Ô Head Coach Matt Kerwick said. ^Ó[Brad^Òs]
been improving from week to week, and his learning curve has been great
to watch.^Ô
Hobart fans were also treated to another spectacular effort by junior
goalie Mike Borsz (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.). The Patriot League
Defensive Player of the Week followed up his 25 save performance against
Penn State, with 15 stops against the Hoyas. Statesmen first-year Dan
Valente (Mount Hebron/Ellicott City, Md.) made one save in three
minutes, while Borsz served a slashing penalty.
Georgetown^Òs Scott Schroeder (Summit/Summit, N.J.) finished with 12
saves.
Hobart closes out its conference schedule on April 21, when the
Statesmen travel to Holy Cross. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
