The Game Story:
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - For the sixth consecutive game, Army fell behind early and for the third straight game that deficit proved to be too great to overcome. No. 12 Hofstra scored the first five goals Saturday afternoon en route to a 16-9 victory before 2,043 fans at Hofstra Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y.

The host Pride rang up a season high 11 goals in the first half and senior attackman Scott Dooley set a career high for points in a game with eight to pace Hofstra.

Senior attackman Tim Pearson scored three goals to become the new all-time leading scorer at Army with 205 points in his four-year career. The old mark of 204 was set by Steve Heller in 1993.

Pearson penciled in his name atop the charts with 23 seconds remaining in the contest. The preseason All-American, who hails from nearby Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., picked up a ground ball right in front of the cage and threw the ball by Hofstra's goalie.

As time was winding down, Pearson's teammates seemed to be pressing to get their peerless leader his magical point. However, the co-captain was glad just to put the milestone behind him.

"I'm just glad its over," Pearson said. "I just want to get this by me and move on. "I think Mike (Kamon) was trying a little too hard to get me the ball at the end. The biggest difference (between setting the record at home versus on the road) is that my folks are here to share this with me.

"This record is a result of all the players who have surrounded me for the past four years and Coach Emmer working on the side with me after practice."

Army senior Dominik Nogic came one save shy of tying his career high for a game. The Reston, Va., native made 19 stops in the cage.

The good news on the day for Army fans came from Geneva, N.Y., where Hobart defeated Bucknell, 12-11, creating a three-way tie for first place in the league standings. The Black Knights return to action Saturday when they host Rutgers at Shea Stadium at West Point, N.Y. Faceoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
