assists, including the go-ahead goal with 44 seconds left, as the Greyhounds
came from behind to defeat Hofstra, 8-7, in a Colonial Athletic Association
(CAA) men's lacrosse game at Hofstra Stadium Saturday.
Loyola (2-0, 2-0 CAA) trailed 7-4 late in the fourth quarter before scoring
four consecutive goals in the final 5:02 to defeat the Pride (1-1, 0-1 CAA) for
the eighth straight time. Brundage's game winner came thanks to an assist from
senior Michael Sullivan, who found the sophomore for a point-blank opportunity
in front despite being knocked to the ground by a Hofstra defender.
Chris Summers scored his only goal of the game with 5:02 left to pull the
Greyhounds within 7-5, and Sullivan then brought Loyola within 7-6 1:10 later.
Sullivan then tied the game with 2:48 left in the quarter as he took a feed
from behind the net from Brundage and cranked a left-handed shot past Jack
Alaimo.
Sullivan had four goals and two assists for the Greyhounds, who haven't lost to
Hofstra since the 1993 season. Adam Hananel and Paul Rao each scored twice for
the Pride, who were 0-for-5 on extra-man opportunities.
Loyola also dominated the faceoff X, with Ryan Radonis and Matt Dupuis winning
15 of 18 faceoffs in the game. Radonis has now won 35 of 45 faceoffs in two
games this season.
Mark Bloomquist had a career-best 14 saves for Loyola, including several
important ones late in the fourth quarter that gave Loyola possession. Alaimo
had 18 saves for Hofstra, which outshot Loyola 38-35.
Loyol hosts Duke at Curley Field next Saturday, while Hofstra hosts Villanova
in a CAA game Tuesday.
