goals in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 14-9
non-conference victory over unranked Binghamton University at snowy
Shuart Stadium Monday night. The Pride, who extended their winning
streak over unranked opponents to 25, improve to 2-1 on the season. The
Bearcats of Binghamton fall to 1-1.
Sophomore middie Ryan Miller had four goals and one assist, freshman
attackman Athan Ianucci posted three goals and two assists, and
sophomore Tim Treubig added three goals to lead the Pride of Hofstra to
their second straight victory. Sophomore attackman Phil Cavallo had
three goals and senior Chris Healy added two goals and one assist to
pace Binghamton.
Three sophomores gave Hofstra a 3-0 lead just 2:56 into the game. Pride
sophomore middie Rob Bonaguro opened the scoring with his first goal of
the year just 1:04 into the contest off a pass from freshman Tom Brewer.
Sophomore Tim Treubig took a pass from freshman Athan Ianucci 24 seconds
later and beat Bearcat goalie Kevin McKeown for his sixth goal of the
season and a 2-0 lead. Sophomore attackman Ryan Miller scored 1:28 later
off a feed from Ryan Lucas to give the Pride a 3-0 lead.
Binghamton sophomore Phil Cavallo put the Bearcats on the board with
his fourth goal of the year from Chris Healy with 11:19 to play in the
first. But Ryan Miller scored his second of the game and the season off
a pass from Ryan Lucas to boost the Pride lead to 4-1. Binghamton
freshman Matt McNamara scored his first of the season from Matt Osborne
with 6:28 to play to close the deficit to 4-2.
But Hofstra scored the next four goals, including one 2:13 into the
second period to go up 8-4. First, sophomore middie John Keysor scored
his fifth of the year with 4:45 to play. Then Athan Ianucci scored
back-to-back goals to close out the scoring in the first quarter. Junior
Ryan Vilar notched his fifth of the season early in the second for an
8-2 lead. But Chris Healy scored an unassisted goal with 10:26 to play
in the half and David Burpoe scored off a pass from Matt DeCirce 2:31
later to close the deficit to 8-4. Hofstra middie Tim Treubig scored his
second of the game and seventh of the year with 3:00 to play in the half
to boost the lead to 9-4. Cavallo scored his second of the game 18
second later to close out the scoring for the half with Hofstra ahead
9-5.
The Pride opened up their lead in the third quarter to 10-5 on
Treubig's third goal of the night off a pass from Ryan Vilar 2:06
into the period. After Cavallo scored his third of the night for
Binghamton on the man-up 4:20 later, Ryan Miller scored the third of his
four goals on the night at the 5:20 mark, and Ianucci notched his third
of the night with 3:44 to play in the third to give Hofstra a
comfortable 12-6 lead.
Hofstra sophomore goalie Matt Southard made 12 saves through the snow
Monday night while Kevin McKeown posted 10 saves in the Bearcats'
cage. Binghamton outshot Hofstra 35-33 and won 16 of 27 face-offs.
The Pride will host top-ranked Johns Hopkins University this Saturday,
March 13th at Shuart Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
