The Game Story:
Worcester, MA - The Hobart men?s lacrosse team clinched at least a share of the Patriot League title today with a 17-6 victory over Holy Cross at the Hart Center Astroturf field. The Statesmen finish the league season with a record of 5-1 and improved to 6-5 overall with the win. The loss drops the Crusaders to 1-12 overall, 0-6 in the Patriot League

Hobart used a 9-0 run in the second and third quarters to turn a 3-2 lead into a 12-2 advantage with 2:36 left in the third quarter. The Statesmen opened the scoring at the 9:53 mark of the first quarter but HC quickly tied the score when Dave McWilliams (Northport, NY) scored an extra-man goal with 8:16 left in the first quarter. Hobart answered again with two straight goals before Shawn McGowan (Garden City, NY) brought the Crusaders to within one with 40 seconds left in the opening portion of play. Unfortunately for HC, the Statesmen then broke the game open holding HC without a goal for over 28 minutes while tallying nine markers to take the commanding lead. Holy Cross scored four or the next five goals of the game, including three by McWilliams but got no closer than six before Hobart notched four straight to round out the scoring.

Sophomore Geoff Zbikowski (Baldswinville, NY) notched four assists while junior Dave Occhialini (Cheshire, CT) chipped in with three goals to lead the Hobart attack, which had 13 different player score a goal. The Statesmen clinch their second title in the last three years.
