| The Game Story: | BALTIMORE, Md. -- Adam Doneger scored three goals and added one assist and Kevin
Boland and Peter LeSueur each added two goals and one assist as third-ranked Johns
Hopkins knocked off visiting Albany, 10-4 in a dense fog at Homewood Field Tuesday
evening. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 4-1, while Albany falls to 2-5.
Hopkins led just 4-3 at the half before scoring the first five goals of the second half to break
the game open. LeSueur scored the first of his two goals with 10:22 remaining in the third
quarter to make it 5-3 and Doneger and Boland added back-to-back tallies less than four
minutes apart midway through the quarter to extend the lead to 7-3. LeSueur added his
second goal of the quarter with just eight seconds left on the clock to make it 8-3, while
Doneger's third goal of the game less than five minutes into the fourth quarter made it 9-3.
Albany's Randy Donaldson and Johns Hopkins' Bobby Benson traded goals in the last five
minutes of the game to account for the final score.
The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first quarter goals by freshman Kyle Barrie and
Doneger, but Albany trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a goal by Jon Smith with just 1:17
remaining in the period. Hopkins pushed the lead to 3-1 on Boland's first goal of the game
off an assist from Barrie midway through the second quarter, but Albany tied the game at 3-3
with back-to-back goals by Sean Donnellan and Brendan Russell in a span of just over a
minute late in the quarter. The Blue Jays carried a 4-3 lead into the half courtesy of a Conor
Ford goal with just 2:39 remaining in the second period, setting the stage for the second-half
run.
In addition to Doneger, Boland, and LeSueur, Hopkins got the one goal and two assists from
Barrie and one goal and one assist from Ford. Senior Nick Murtha registered 11 saves in goal
for the Blue Jays, who held a 44-21 edge in shots and a 30-18 advantage in ground balls.
Smith's one goal and one assist led Albany, while freshman Luke Daquino chipped in with a
game-high three assists. Freshman goalie Kevin Rae was strong in goal for the Danes as he
posted 16 saves.
Johns Hopkins will next be in action on Friday night when the Blue Jays host seventh-ranked
North Carolina. Albany returns to action on Sunday at Quinnipiac. |
