Army improves to 25-0 all-time against the Leopards. Tuesday's win represents the first time since 1997, a span of 124 games, that the Black Knights allowed as few as one goal in a contest.
Lafayette (1-5, 0-2 Patriot League) finally found the back of the cage on a man-up goal by Sean Burek with 7 minutes, 55 seconds remaining in the game to avoid the blanking. The tally ended a scoreless streak of 52:35 for Army (3-3, 1-1) and Fullerton. The Black Knights stingy defense has allowed just five goals over the past two games to pull the squad even in the won-loss column for the first time this spring.
Fullerton made 14 saves, marking the fourth straight game in which the Liverpool, N.Y., native has reached double digits in the save column. His one goal against is a new career best.
First team All-American John Walker scored a goal and picked up an assist to lead all scorers Tuesday. Jon Burton, Kevin LoRusso and Matt Scheel all tallied for the Black Knights in the first half as Army carried a 4-0 advantage into the locker room.
Army returns to Michie Stadium on Saturday, March 25 for a 1 p.m. showdown with first-place Colgate in a Patriot League tilt at West Point. |
