Ulrich Sports Complex in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Black Knights (8-2) are off to their best start since posting a similar mark after 10 games in 1993. However, it took a seven-goal third quarter to put away a determined Lehigh squad. The Mountain Hawks (3-8/1-3 Patriot League) held a 7-4 advantage at halftime after outscoring Army 5-2 in the second quarter.
Trailing by three early in the second half, Army scored three times in 36 seconds to tie the contest, and then regained the lead for good one minute later. Justin Bokmeyer started the run at 11:49 of the third quarter off a feed from Bryan. Bryan and Marko Kostovic, then scored three seconds apart 33 ticks later to knot things up at 7-all. Chris Couch, Jim Wagner and Kostovic ended a six-goal spurt as Army turned a three-goal deficit into a three-goal lead with 6:42 left in the third quarter.
After Lehigh's Greg Morin finally dented the twine for the hosts, the Black Knights went on another four-goal run opening a 14-8 advantage. The Mountain Hawks closed out the contest with three goals in the final five minutes, but could not get any closer.
Wagner recorded a hat trick and Bokmeyer and Kostovic each scored twice in support of Bryan and Walker's six-point performances. Darak improved to 8-2 on the year in the cage. Tom Ellis made 14 saves for Lehigh.
The Black Knights will return home Tuesday, April 13 at Shea Stadium for a 7 p.m. start against Colgate. |
