Behind three-goal efforts from three different players, the `Hounds went on to win 19-4, improving their season mark to 2-1 in the process.
Junior Patrick Kennedy was the first to score with an unassisted tally at 11:32 of the first quarter. Kennedy capped the quarter with a goal at 2:35 and also assisted on two of Rabidou's first-quarter goals to end the stanza with four points. Kennedy finished the game with three goals and a career-high five assists.
Freshman Michael Crimmins, who scored his first career goal on and up-and-under move at 12:53 of the second quarter, scored back-to-back goals to push the lead to 9-2 and finished the game with three goals and one assist.
"Our guys played good today," says Toomey. "The second line probably saw more pressure than the first team and handled it very well. I think our freshmen looked pretty good."
While Crimmins led the freshman attack with three scores, two goals from Ryan Nelson and a goal apiece from freshmen Michael Atkinson and Tyler Gale aided in Loyola's dominating performance.
The Greyhounds finished the game with 56 groundballs and 35 shots on goal. Juniors Dan Bauers and Andrew Spack, who entered the game with both of Loyola's extra-man goals this season, accounted for all three of Loyola's man-up scores on Tuesday. Both of Spack's two goals were man-up tallies while Bauers had one man-up goal and two total goals in the win.
Senior Michael Fretwell picked up the win in goal, playing 19 minutes and 42 seconds, giving up two goals while making three saves. All four Loyola goalies played in the game with senior Trae Rodgers taking the second shift, making four saves, red-shirt freshman Connor Locke playing the third shift, making one save and freshman Alex Peaty closing out the game, playing the fourth quarter and making a game-high five saves.
"I think we have one of the best goalie units, from top-to-bottom, in the country," says Toomey. "They work very well together, they pick each other up in practice, and today - I loved watching them cheer for one another in the cage."
The Greyhounds, now 2-1 overall, head to San Diego for a First Four match-up with No. 3 Duke this Saturday. |
