career-high six goals to lift the University of Massachusetts to a 19-5
victory over Hartford in menšs lacrosse action this afternoon at Richard F.
Garber Field. Paccione now has a team leading 20 goals this season for the
11th-ranked Minutemen, who improve to 6-1 on the year with the victory. The
Hawks fall to 2-3 overall with the loss
UMass jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of play, on
three goals from Paccione and a score by senior attackman Marc Morley
(Canton, N.Y.). The Hawks then came back to score three of the next four
goals, with senior midfielder Tyler Francey scoring at the 14:03 mark of the
second quarter to cut the UMass lead to 5-3. But the Minutemen then went on
an 8-0 scoring run, netting the last five goals of the second quarter and
the first three of the third, to take a 13-3 lead with 5:39 left in the
third period. UMass cruised to victory from that point, outscoring the Hawks
6-2 for the remainder of the game.
In addition to Paccionešs career-high six goals, Morley, junior midfielder
Chris Fiore (Freeport, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Kevin Leveille (Delmar,
N.Y.) each scored three goals for UMass. Freshman attackman Gene Tundo
(Orchard Park, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Jeff Zywicki (Nepean, Ontario)
also had solid games, recording three assists each.
Massachusetts returns to action next Saturday, March 30, when it travels to
Penn State for an ECAC Lacrosse League game at 1:00 p.m.
