The Game Story:
AMHERST, Mass. - Senior attackman Marc Morley (Canton, N.Y.) scored a career-high six goals to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 21-9 victory over Rutgers in ECAC Lacrosse action this afternoon at Richard F. Garber Field. The Minutemen secured the ECAC Lacrosse title outright with the victory, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record in the league and an 11-3 overall record.

No. 7 Massachusetts broke open a close game at the half with a season-high 11 goals in the third quarter. The Minutemen held a 7-4 halftime lead, but dominated the third quarter to take control of the game. Massachusetts outshot Rutgers, 20-5, and won 11 of 14 faceoffs in the quarter. The Minutemen were paced by the scoring of Morley, who had three of his six goals during the third quarter. Sophomore Kevin Glenz (Merrick, N.Y.) and freshmen Gene Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Craig Conn (St. Catherines, Ontario) all had a pair of goals during the Minuteman run.

Each team scored three goals a piece in the fourth quarter to close the game. Morley led all scorers with six goals, followed by juniors Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) and Chris Fiore (Freeport, N.Y.), who each had two goals and two assists. Senior Dan Paccione (Amityville, N.Y.) and sophomore Jeff Zywicki (Nepean, Ontario) both had a goal and three assists, while Glenz finished the game with three goals, and sophomore Neil Lundberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) had two goals and an assist.

Freshman goaltender Bill Schell (Mahopac, N.Y.) made six saves in the cage for the Minutemen, while Rutgers goaltender Chris Kenyon made 13 saves. Massachusetts ends the regular season with an 11-3 overall record, while Rutgers finishes at 2-12 overall and 0-5 in the ECAC.

Massachusetts, which receives the ECAC Lacrosse League¹s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, will learn were it will be playing in the first round when the NCAA selection show is televised live at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. The show will be aired on Empire Sports (channel 626 on DirecTV).

This is the first time Massachusetts has recorded back-to-back double-digit win seasons since doing it in 1988, 1989 and 1990. This year, the Minutemen will be making their 14th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 1997.
