Brice Queenan scored four goals to lead the Hoyas (7-2) to the win. Mount St. Mary's (5-5) goalkeeper Dan Whitehurst made a career-high 22 saves in the loss.
Georgetown came out flying in the quarter, outshooting the Mount 18-5 while taking a 4-1 lead. Brice Queener, Mike Boynton, Trevor Casey and Nick Miaritis each scored in the quarter to give the Hoyas a 4-0 lead. The Mount's Tilghman Herring scored with 56 seconds left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Hoyas scored the first two goals of the second quarter, the first coming from Queener with a man down. Pete Cannon's goal 1:16 into the second quarter gave the Hoyas a 6-1 advantage. Mount St. Mary's, however, fought back with two goals from Seifert and one by Billy Jautze to make the score 6-4. Mike White and Scott Kahoe answered for Georgetown, but Warner scored with 51 seconds left in the half to make the score 8-5 at the intermission.
Five minutes into the third quarter, Seifert scored his third of the day to cut the Georgetown lead to 8-6. Georgetown scored four of the next five goals to stretch its lead to 12-7 with 13:41 left in the game. After a Dan Hatton score for the Mount, Ted Lamade and Boynton found the back of the game to give Georgetown a six-goal edge. Late Mount goals from Jason Werner and Warner rounded out the scoring.
The Hoyas held a 59-33 advantage in shots and a 44-28 edge in ground balls. Whitehurst had 22 saves for the Mount while Miles Kass made 12 saves in his first start of the year for Georgetown.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday, April 16, when #13 Bucknell visits Alumni Field.
Game Notes: Mount St. Mary's now leads the all-time series, 15-7, but the Hoyas have won the past seven meetings...Mount St. Mary's is now 0-19 all-time vs. ranked opponents...The loss was the first at home for the Mount...Georgetown face-off man Andy Corno won 14-of-23 face-offs and had a game-high 11 ground balls. |
